Dr. Gavin Ashenden, former Continuing Anglican bishop who came into the Catholic Church and is now a member of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, has a new weekly podcast at The Catholic Herald called “Merely Catholic with Gavin Ashenden.”
The podcast, which promises “the best spirited thinking on religious affairs today,” launched April 14, and features Ashenden and a guest, reflecting on the cultural, spiritual, and moral issues affecting society at large and the Christian world.
Ashenden has discussed the German Synodal Path with Cardinal George Pell and the cardinal’s prediction of a papal intervention. He discussed with Professor Patrick Pullicino, a former consultant neurologist and now a Catholic priest, the scientific theories explaining the eyewitness accounts of Jesus Christ’s suffering at the crucifixion. He also spoke with Melissa Villalobos, the mother who with her unborn child was saved from a fatal hemorrhage by a miracle through St. John Henry Newman’s intercession.
In Ashenden’s latest podcast episode, he speaks with Ordinariate priest and chaplain to Nottingham University, Father David Palmer, “about shocking sexual blasphemy in a children’s book which has divided staff at a Catholic school in south London.”
Last year, Father Palmer was subjected to controversy after the university tried to have him replaced as a chaplain over Catholic tweets against abortion and assisted suicide. The Ordinariate priest was finally recognized in September by the university as a chaplain for Catholic students.
New Episodes of “Merely Catholic with Gavin Ashenden” drop every Thursday. You can subscribe and download episodes from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, CastBox, Deezer, iHeart, Player FM,Podcast Addict, and Podchaser.
