The U.S. March for Life is back on in 2022, and so is the “Ordinariate Mass before the March.” This year, the Ordinariate Mass will have the same host, St. Luke’s Ordinariate parish, but at a new location.
The 2022 March for Life is Friday January 21, with the rally starting on the National Mall at 12 PM, and the March itself to the U.S. Supreme Court starting at 1 PM.
This year St. Luke’s will host the 9 AM Ordinariate Mass before the March, celebrated with Divine Worship: the Missal, at the Ordinariate parish’s permanent location in Oxon Hill, MD.
St. Luke’s has also posted information for the 2022 Ordinariate Mass before the March event on its Facebook.
Father Eric Bergman, the pastor of St Thomas More Ordinariate parish in Scranton, PA, who gave the homily at the 2020 Ordinariate Mass before the March, will preach once again as this year’s homilist.
After the Ordinariate Mass, marchers will convoy from St. Luke’s over to the D.C. metro station of Southern Avenue on the Green Line – a 9 minute drive – and then metro into D.C. where they will connect with an Ordinariate contingent from Christ the King Catholic Church in Towson, MD.
St. Luke’s had originally envisioned a bigger event schedule around the 2022 March for Life, but pared down events to just the Ordinariate Mass given the persistence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the first year St. Luke’s will not have the Ordinariate Mass before the March at their old location of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. The new location showcases St. Luke’s permanent home in the old St. Ignatius church in Oxon Hill, MD, which is just outside the D.C. boundaries.
Participants at the 9 AM Ordinariate Mass before the March should have plenty of time to assemble on the National Mall for the March for Life’s main events.
The March for Life Rally begins at 12 PM, and lasts approximately an hour. (Those who arrive on the National Mall early will hear a pre-rally concert by Grammy-nominee Matthew West starting at 11 AM). A list of speakers can be found here.
The March begins in earnest at 1 PM, starting between 12th and 14th streets, and then proceeding up Constitution Ave to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Pro-life advocates at 2022’s 49th March for Life are energized by the possibility the U.S. Supreme Court may finally overturn the U.S. abortion jurisprudence set by the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, with a new ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.
The March’s theme for the 2022 March for Life is “Equality Begins in the Womb,” which “highlights how true equality is only possible if we recognize that children in the womb also deserve protection.”
