Ordinariate members are walking the famed Camino pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in May 2023 with Msgr. Keith Newton, the ordinary for the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham.
According to the UK Ordinariate, the Ordinariate Camino pilgrimage group will travel the last 75 miles, called the Portuguese Way, from the Spanish border town of Tui to Santiago de Compostela. The Camino de Santiago is one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Europe, culminating at the cathedral where the tomb of the apostle St. James the Greater is reputed to be.
The journey starts on May 25 and ends on June 1, 2023.
The itinerary is as follows:
Day 1 (25th of May) Travel to Santiago: Coach from the airport to overnight accommodation in Tui.
Day 2 Tui to Porrino (10.5 miles)
Day 3 Porrino to Redondella (10.5 miles)
Day 4 Redondella to Pontevedra (12.5 miles)
Day 5 Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis (14 miles)
Day 6 Caldas de Reis to Padron (12 miles)
Day 7 Padron to Santiago (16 miles)
Day 8 (1st of June) Depart pilgrimage
The UK Ordinariate explains that Mass will be celebrated daily, with the Angelus at noon. Pilgrims will have the opportunity to pray the rosary together, have confession, or receive spiritual direction.
The pilgrimage cost of £585 covers just hotel accommodation and breakfast. Prospective pilgrims are responsible for the rest, and will need to reserve their places by November 15, 2022.
