The U.K. Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham is hosting an hour Facebook Live Q&A on Sunday, Sept. 19, for the new Divine Worship: Daily Office (Commonwealth edition) which is now available from The Catholic Truth Society.
This “Commonwealth edition” of the Daily Office serves both the U.K. Ordinariate and the Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross (based in Australia and Pacific Rim countries). However, any Catholic who is not bound to pray a particular form of the Liturgy of the Hours can also pray with the Commonwealth edition of Divine Worship: Daily Office, and so join in the public prayer of the whole Catholic Church.
The U.K. Ordinariate's Facebook Live Q&A starts this Sunday at 7 p.m. BST / 2 p.m. EDT. The discussion will run 1 hour. You can join here.
The U.K. Ordinariate has been encouraging Catholics who get the new breviary to post photos and videos online sharing their experience. Already some reviews have come in:
The new Divine Worship: Daily Office (Commonwealth edition) is expected to greatly aid prayer, discipleship, evangelization, and ecumenical outreach.
"It is fervently hoped that this new volume in the Divine Worship series will nourish the personal and corporate life of prayer in the Ordinariates," Father Christopher Lindlar, convener of the liturgical working group behind the Commonwealth edition told the ACS back in June. "Both discipleship and evangelisation flow from prayer. The beauty of the register of language, the traditionally-ordered provision of sacred Scripture, the supplementary contents will draw the praying disciple deeper into the life in Christ."
Father Lindlar also encouraged people to make Divine Worship: Daily Office (Commonwealth edition) a gift to someone Catholic or Anglican, "particularly someone who may be patiently discerning becoming a Catholic in the Ordinariates."
This Daily Office book is based principally on the 1662 Book of Common Prayer Morning and Evening Prayer – the shared Anglican patrimony of the two Ordinariates -- with the additional hours of Prime, Terce, Sext, None, and Compline. The book has Votive Offices and the Office of the Dead as well.
The single volume office book has a leatherette cover, gold gilt pages with six ribbons. It comes to 2,000 pages in a 5”x7” format – a size comparable to the Divine Worship - Ordinariate study missal or Baronius Press’s 1962 Roman Missal for the people – and includes the full lectionary and a selection of hymns.
Divine Worship: Daily Office (Commonwealth edition) costs £45 (approx. $63 USD/ $77 CAD), and copies can be ordered directly from CTS.
